Welcome to the Department of Family Medicine in Haifa

The prime two missions of Haifa's Department of Family Medicine are education and research. To educate and train physicians to deliver comprehensive continuing care for the individual, his family, and the community, and to develop and conduct research in family practice.
The department strives to:

1. Teach and educate medical students, residents and board physicians about patient and family centered care based on a comprehensive systemic approach, with empathy and compassion.

2. Promote self-awareness, professional curiosity and scientific, research-oriented thinking.

3. Be a source of support to family physicians engaged in clinical and biopsychosocial fields by addressing their personal needs and feelings.

4. Develop knowledge based on research in family medicine, and promote research by offering professional and technical support.

5. Create a work environment that improves patient, family and community care. The department will support programs that contribute to the quality of care and are concerned about enhancing the work environment, teamwork, communication with colleagues and cooperation with the community.

6. Be instrumental in planning a community health policy, and ensuring a just distribution of resources among the various Israeli groups.

7. Promote family medicine among poor people or those with a high morbidity risk.
